“Ethical Considerations of AI”

Dr. Dennis Cooley is Professor of Philosophy and Ethics, Director of the Northern Plains Ethics Institute at North Dakota State University, Chair of NDSU’s School of Humanities, and Director of North Dakota University System’s Dakota Humanities Academy. Cooley received his Ph.D. in Philosophy from the University of Rochester in 1995. His teaching and research interests include theoretical and applied ethics with a focus on pragmatism, bioethics, business ethics, personhood, death and dying, and AI. He authored or edited five books, including Technology, Transgenics, and a Practical Moral Code (Springer), Death’s Values and Obligations: A Pragmatic Framework (Springer), and Passing/Out: Identity Veiled and Revealed (Ashgate), and professional ethics articles, including on AI’s impact on mental health, social connectivity, and autonomy.

Cooley edits Springer’s International Library of Bioethics and the NPEI’s Northern Plains Ethics Journal. His service to the profession includes executive board membership on both the Association for Practical and Professional Ethics and Humanities ND (NEH).
